An Inter-Media History of Bombay Cinema

Dr. Ravikant, Associate Professor from Centre for the Study of Developing Societies delivered a lecture on the topic of ‘An Inter-Media History of Cinema’ on 16th March, 2017.  Through an exploration of film history of classical Indian cinema, he demonstrated the relationship between cinema and radio as well as cinema and print.

He screened clips from various old Hindi films which used radio in different ways such as Bewaqoof, Aan Baan, Oonche Log, etc. Similarly he spoke on the relationship between cinema and print by citing archival data from prominent outlets of film journalism. He cited examples from magazines such as Madhuri and Urdu magazines like Aina and Shama.
